Conclusion of the Final Oral Round

 

Sixteen teams from all over the world came to Geneva to demonstrate their knowledge of WTO law and to bring their mooting skills to the test. The IOC wishes to congratulate all teams with their achievements and likes to thank everyone involved for bringing sixth edition of this competition to a successful end.

Tips for the Final Oral Round

 

The 2008 EMC² Case is a highly complex WTO Telecommunications problem that contains a number of legal, policy and technological issues. The Panellists in the six Regional Rounds, which were held in early March 2008, have provided observation comments to the Academic Supervisors.  Consequently, the EMC² Academic Supervisors have recommended to the IOC that the following document should be made available to all participants progressing to the Final Oral Round.

Teams progressing to the Final Oral Round

 

It has been a week since the last Regional Round of the EMC2 took place. Now all the teams have pleaded and all the scores are counted, the IOC is ready to officially announce which teams are progressing to the Final Oral Round in Geneva.

 

The sixteen teams with the following team numbers are progressing to the Final Oral Round:

Team Confirmation Form for the Final Oral Round

 

Each team invited to attend the FOR must complete a Team Confirmation Form for administration purposes.  As per the Timeline (Appendix C) the Team Confirmation Form must be submitted to the IOC (and relevant RRO, if applicable), by email or fax by Monday, 31ST March 2008!

Allocation list for the Final Oral Round in Geneva

 

Due to cancellations of several teams, the IOC decided to change the FOR allocation list, detailing the number of teams permitted to progress to the Final Oral Round (FOR) from an individual Regional Round and the International Written Round. This new list will replace the list published on Tuesday 8 January 2008.

 

ELSA Regional Round of Hungary: 4 teams

ELSA Regional Round of Romania: 4 teams

Asia non-ELSA Regional Round: 2 teams

South East Asia & Pacific non-ELSA Regional Round: 1 team

Latin American non-ELSA Regional Round: 2 teams

North American non-ELSA Regional Round: 2 teams

International Written Round: 1 team

Change in the Rules for
EMC2

 

We wish to advice the participants that, after reviewing the Rules, we decided to make a change in article 5.5.3, paragraph 3. The updated paragraph will read as follows:

 

If two (2) Teams from the same Regional Round advance to the Semi Finals of the Final Oral Round, those two (2) Teams shall be paired against one another in such Elimination Round. The same procedure shall apply to two (2) Teams from the same country participating in a Regional Round.

Change of dates of the Final Oral Round in Geneva

 

ELSA's International Organising Committee wishes to announce that due to unforseen circumstances the EMC2  Final Oral Round (FOR) dates have been changed.  The FOR will now be held in Geneva from Tuesday, 29th April until Sunday 4th May. The change in dates will ensure that WTO law experts will be able to judge the competition as in previous years of the competition.

Deadline for dispatch of the Written Submissions (updated, original publication: Tuesday 8 January 2008)

 

According to the Timeline for the ELSA Moot Court Competition 2007 – 2008, the deadline for the dispatch of Registered Teams’ hard- and electronic copies of their Written Submissions is 14 January 2008. Registered Teams shall forward these documents submitted via post or courier AND e-mail to both the IOC and the individual Regional Round Organizer (if applicable). The deadline for dispatch shall be 1700 hours local time (for each individual jurisdiction and for both the hard- and electronic copies of the Written Submissions).

 

This means that all copies have to be SEND before the deadline. Are you not sure if the copies will reach the IOC or RRO in time, please save a proof of sending the documents.

Teams which participate in the ELSA Regional Rounds (in Hungary and Romania) or the International Written Round have to send their Written Submissions via post or courier AND e-mail ONLY to the IOC.

 

Teams participating in a non-ELSA Regional Round have to send their Written Submissions via post or courier AND e-mail to both the IOC and the Regional Round Organizer.

Allocation of the ELSA Regional Rounds

 

According to the Official Rules of the EMC2, we hereby announce the following allocation of teams to the respective ELSA Regional Rounds.

 

Here follows a list of teamnumbers, per Regional Round. This list includes teams that first have to participate in a National Round. Only a certain number of teams will actually progress from a National Round to the Regional Round.

 

(this is the same list as published two days ago, but per teamnumber instead of country)

 

Teams with the following numbers will participate in the Regional Round of Hungary:

 

004, 006, 008, 019, 026, 027, 039, 044, 046, 047, 052, 061, 062, 063

 

Teams with the following numbers will participate in the Regional Round of Romania:

 

001, 007, 009, 016, 017, 021, 022, 023, 024, 025, 029, 030, 031, 034, 037, 053, 057, 058, 059, 060

 

Details regarding both Regional Rounds will be distributed by e-mail to the nominated contact person.
